Which Character to Unlock First

Updated 2026-10-02

On this page

The Steam updates on September 22 and October 1 added Ana and Yung Venuz. Neither has a published unlock condition or player unlock rate, so neither is ranked here; this order covers the original nine characters. The October addition is not confirmed for consoles.

There is no honest S/A/B/C tier list for Blood Dungeon yet — the game launched on August 25, 2026, and nobody has the hours to rank characters credibly. What we can give you is better: the official unlock conditions plus the share of players worldwide who have actually earned each character. That data answers "what should I go for first" without anyone's opinion. And if what you're actually asking is "who is the best character in Blood Dungeon" — the honest answer is the best one you can realistically reach, which for most players is the early four below.

The early four (63–69% of players)

Most players earn these within their first sessions, and you can too:

  1. Leggy — kill 50 spiders (68.7%). The most-unlocked character challenge in the game: about two in three players have done it. He spins climbable webs, per the official description.
  2. Leech — defeat Wyrm in under 30 seconds (66.1%). Sounds like a speedrun, but two-thirds of players have done it, so it's very achievable. If the 30-second window is out of reach, come back after a few more unlocks.
  3. Baby — buy 10 items at the Bone Shop (63.2%). No skill required, just spending. Spend Bones after every run and it unlocks itself.
  4. Skinja — avoid damage for 2:00 (63.1%). Two minutes without taking a hit — and about two in three players have managed it.

The middle gap: Bug (9.2%)

Bug — stay airborne for 5 seconds — is the first real wall. The drop from 63% to 9% tells you most players never deliberately chase it. If you want Bug, plan the attempt: ladders, chains and vines let you stay off the floor, and it only takes five clean seconds. His reward is flight, per the official description ("take flight with Bug").

The boss-gated trio (under 7%)

  • Hypnomancer — defeat the second boss in Boiler (6.1%). Requires reaching the fourth arena and clearing an extra boss beyond its first.
  • Murderist — defeat the final boss in Pit (4.1%). Final bosses are far harder than first bosses; most players who reach an arena never finish it.
  • Krug — defeat the final boss in Corridor (3.6%). The least unlocked of the original characters in this list.

Treat these as long-term goals that arrive as a byproduct of arena progression, not things to grind for directly. If a final boss feels like a wall, more Bone Shop investment is usually the answer.

The actual plan

Work the early four in whatever order your runs naturally produce — spiders, Wyrm, Bone Shop spending, then a deliberate no-hit attempt. Pick up Bug when you're comfortable staying off the floor. Let the boss-gated trio come from pushing the arena chain. The character roster has every condition in one table, and unlock everything shows where the original characters sit in the achievement checklist.
