Weapons, Charms and the Unlock Chain

Updated 2026-10-02

On this page

Blood Dungeon has over 100 unlockable weapons and upgrades, and during a run your build is the sum of the cards you pick. This guide covers how those choices are structured, then every confirmed weapon unlock condition — all of them official.

Level-up cards and rarity

Raising your blood level offers a choice of 3 cards, each a WEAPON, SPELL or CHARM. Cards carry a rarity label — Common, Uncommon and Rare have all been seen — and weapons level up as you keep investing in them (you'll see LVL on the card). If none of the three fit your build, you can spend gold to forcibly reroll the offer, per Aftermath's review. You can also refuse an offer entirely; on Steam, refusing 10 upgrades in one run unlocks the Explosionist achievement and Bone Shop item.

Two charms are confirmed verbatim from official screenshots:

  • Fireworks (Uncommon) — "Enemies explode into small bullets when killed."
  • Highground — "+50% damage when you have the highground."

The weapon unlock chain

Weapons unlock from specific in-game feats. The main chain starts from the weapon you begin with:

  1. Machinegun — your starting weapon. Fire 25 bullets before reloading → Double Deagles (75.1% of players). Upgrade it to max level → Bullet Time.
  2. Double Deagles — 5 kills in a row → Laser (56.1%).
  3. Laser — damage 10 enemies with one beam → Shield (39.3%).

The Axe and Magnum branch off on their own:

  • Axe — kill 10 enemies with one Axe → Grenade (17.2%).
  • Magnum — deal at least 700 damage in one shot → Stagger (8.9%).

The September 14 v2026091401 patch buffed Harpoon without publishing a value. It also changed Artillery: shots now land in an area around one enemy instead of targeting several enemies. Treat Artillery advice from before that patch as a description of the old targeting behavior.

The September 22 Steam v2026091805 patch added Ana with the new Torch as her starting weapon. It also added the Bling Ring and Doom Ring spells, the Coupon Book charm, the Scepter weapon, and the Eggplant charm. The Coupon Book makes shop cages 30% cheaper, while Coin Finder was replaced by Coin Magnet, which pulls in all money every 30 seconds. The Scepter is temporarily disabled while Messhof fixes a bug, and the official notes do not give unlock conditions for any of these additions.

The October 1 Steam v2026093002 patch added Yung Venuz and four more build pieces. His starting SMG sprays bullets toward the nearest enemy. The unlockable Crossbow fires a high-powered bolt at the onscreen enemy with the most health. Boiling Veins prevents an explosion from killing you, but the hit can still leave you at one heart. Dodge gives a chance to avoid all damage from a hit, and upgrading it raises that chance; Luck does not affect it. The notes confirm associated quests but publish no unlock conditions or chance values. This patch is not confirmed for consoles, and it does not say that Scepter has been re-enabled.

Two things worth knowing from that table. First, Drop Sites are possible locations for special chests. Collect one and another spawns at a different site. Update v2026090202 added clues in the Library, new quests and NPCs, and Map Stamps in the Bone Shop; v2026090401 improved those icons and added text at the site, and v2026091401 added empty-site sprites plus a tips toggle. Weapons can be recovered there, and the Protection Drone asks for 20 recoveries in a single run. The official notes do not publish fixed site coordinates, so follow the current map and quest clues. Second, weapons like the harpoons and Bounce balls appear in item conditions too (retrieving 25 harpoons unlocks Flippers; 20 bouncing Bounce balls at once unlocks Life Insurance), so unusual weapons are worth picking up when they appear.

Beyond the named unlocks, reviews have spotted more of the weapon pool in the wild: Aftermath's review mentions a volleyball and a whip that chains between enemies, and at least one upgrade with a hyper-specific trigger — a big fire-rate boost while you're below 25% oxygen whilst swimming, which makes deliberately skirting drowning a viable strategy in water-heavy arenas.

Build principles

  • Stack synergies, don't spread thin. Weapons level up as you keep investing in the same card, so depth beats breadth.
  • Fix your weakest link. The stat panel on the level-up screen lists damage, reload, knockback, move speed, jump height, jumps, magnet range and status chances — check what's actually lagging before taking a card.
  • Weapon levels matter. Upgrading the Machinegun to max level is itself an unlock condition — it earns the Bullet Time item.

For the between-run side of progression, the Bone Shop guide covers where Bones do the most work, and unlock everything puts every weapon and item condition in one checklist. To turn these mechanics into an actual plan for your next run, see best builds.
