The 6 Arenas: Unlock Order and Progression

Updated 2026-09-23

On this page

Blood Dungeon has 6 survival arenas β€” the game's levels β€” unlocked in a fixed chain: Catacombs β†’ Pit β†’ Corridor β†’ Boiler β†’ Tombs β†’ Flood. The rule is simple β€” defeat the first boss of an arena to unlock the next one. Each arena also has a final boss (and the Boiler has a second boss too), and those gate the game's rarest characters, weapons and items.

The chain

#ArenaHow to unlockPlayers who reached it
1CatacombsAvailable from the startEveryone
2PitDefeat the first boss in Catacombs84.0%
3CorridorDefeat the first boss in Pit57.4%
4BoilerDefeat the first boss in Corridor38.9%
5TombsDefeat the first boss in Boiler31.0%
6FloodDefeat the first boss in Tombs25.5%

The percentages are a useful reality check: reaching the Pit puts you with the majority of players; reaching the Flood puts you in the top quarter.

September balance changes

The arena order did not change, but the September patches changed later runs. Update v2026090202 adjusted waves 10–11 plus Bouncer and Starfish values; it also changed the EXP curve and Blood drop rate. Updates v2026090401 and v2026091401 then reduced some late-game enemy health, while the latter gave Bouncer a slightly longer cooldown. The official notes do not publish the exact numbers, so older damage or timing advice should be treated as pre-patch.

The September 22 Steam v2026091805 patch reduced some late-game enemy health again and slightly shortened the interval between oxygen bubbles in Flood. It also makes the tips toggle hide locked-door bubbles. Ana now appears in a new underground Annex at the Bunkhouse, but that hub addition does not change the six-arena unlock chain. Her exact unlock condition is not stated in the official notes.

What each arena gates

Unlocking the next arena is only half of what an arena offers. Final bosses and exploration carry their own rewards:

  • Catacombs β€” its final boss unlocks the Decoy weapon.
  • Pit β€” its final boss unlocks the Murderist character.
  • Corridor β€” its final boss unlocks the Krug character.
  • Boiler β€” the busiest arena. Its second boss unlocks Hypnomancer, fully exploring it unlocks Multiheal, and its final boss unlocks the Kill Zone weapon.
  • Tombs β€” its final boss unlocks Procrastinator.
  • Flood β€” fully exploring it unlocks Crystalize, and its final boss unlocks Battery β€” beaten by fewer than 1% of players.

How to read a new arena

We won't invent layout maps β€” but the scouting habits that matter are the same everywhere:

  • Find the vertical spine. Arenas are built around walls, ladders, chains, grates and vines. Identify the tallest connected structure β€” that's your escape route when the floor fills up.
  • Find the loop. A circuit you can run repeatedly lets the horde bunch up behind you, and keeps you out of corners.
  • Grab keys. Locked doors marked "NEEDS πŸ”‘" block off parts of the map, and the official description notes chests are hidden throughout the arenas β€” and fully exploring an arena is itself an unlock condition in the Boiler and the Flood, so exploration is never wasted. Patch v2026091401 also stops keys spawning inside a locked Boiler room, removing one progression trap.
  • Note the dead ends. Corners you can't jump or climb out of are where runs go to die; route around them before you need to.

Chests, altars and water

The arenas' geometry is fixed between runs, so map knowledge is real progression:

  • Follow the current Drop Site clues. Messhof's September 3 update defines Drop Sites as possible locations for special chests: collect one and another spawns at a different site. The patch added Library quests, hub NPCs and Map Stamps to help with the route; the September 5 patch improved the stamp icons and added text on-site. The September 14 patch added a visual for empty sites and a menu toggle for Drop Site tips.
  • Static pickups stay put. Powerups like dynamite sat in the same locations in IGN's pre-release hands-on, so a scouting run can double as a loot map.
  • Water is a hazard, not scenery. Some arenas hide flooded pockets behind breakable blocks, and you can drown. IGN's reviewer learned this the hard way when a random-teleport upgrade dropped them straight into an underwater section β€” think twice before taking teleport effects in water-heavy maps.

When you unlock a new arena, do a throwaway run purely to map its loop before committing to a serious attempt. For the fights themselves, see the boss guide; for how arena progress fits into everything else, see unlock everything.
